The tour shows the visual world of the exhibition “geliebt, gelobt, gehypt”, explains the importance of press photography for visual representation of heroic figures and stops by the display archive of Ringier Image Archive (RBA), from which the image material originates.
Heroic stories have accompanied us all along. What is behind our need to venerate idols and role models? Who do we elevate to the status of hero or heroine? And when does a hero’s status begin to crumble? The guided tour through the exhibition “geliebt, gelobt, gehypt” addresses individual, social and economic aspects of heroism.
The focus of the tour is on the press photographs from the Ringier Image Archive (RBA), that have been processed for the exhibition. These show the staging of popular and fallen stars on front pages or in home stories, serve to reflect on the visual representation of stereotypical heroic figures and heroic poses or provide insights into different fan cultures and sports careers.
Together, the visitors look back at idols of the past and discuss how heroes are constructed in the age of social media.
The tour also takes visitors behind the scenes and shows the original archive material in the Ringier Image Archive (RBA). This makes it possible to immerse yourself in the historical press image archive, browse through countless original image dossiers and thus uncover the mechanisms of media staging with your own hands.
