Discover the press archive of the former consumer magazine “Heim und Leben”, which documented social change in the 1930s to 1960s like no other medium. The selection of photographic positions from all language regions of Switzerland also offers some new discoveries.
“Heim und Leben” was an illustrated consumer magazine with a high proportion of images that offered a platform for important positions in Swiss reportage photography. The extensive image archive of the magazine, which was published by C.J. Bucher-Verlag, became the responsibility of the Museum im Bellpark after the publishing house was dissolved. With the support of Memoriav, the association for the preservation of audiovisual cultural assets, the photo collection was secured and inventoried.
Now that this work has been completed, the Museum im Bellpark is showing an in-depth insight into the remarkable press archive, which documents social change in the period from 1930 to 1960. The presentation focuses on those photographers who had a formative influence on the profile of the popular magazine. The selection brings together positions from German-speaking Switzerland, French-speaking Switzerland and Italian-speaking Switzerland, including some new discoveries that expand the history of Swiss photography in an exciting way.
