«We Do The Rest» is a performative event that questions the limits of photography. In collaboration with artist Augustin Lignier, students in the Master Photography program at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne invite the public to an exceptional evening in the school’s main hall.
From shooting to distribution, “We Do The Rest” explores the notions of effort and bodily constraint in contemporary photographic mechanics. Through a series of sometimes spectacular, sometimes subtle and minimal performances, the students of the Master Photography program at ECAL/University of Art and Design Lausanne use their gestures and actions to question the structure of image-making. From apnea photography to the imprisonment of framing, from the mental image to the bubbles of social networks, all the proposals test photographic limits through the body.
The project, directed by artist Augustin Lignier, revisits the radical performances of the 60s in the digital age, where audiences are mainly virtual and relationships reduced to pixels. Through still images and videos, words, movements, and sounds performed for one evening only in the ECAL’s monumental hall, we invite you to experience photography differently, to immerse yourself in these simulations, for real. And it’s up to you to press the shutter button…
