New Swiss Views #30, Switzerland, 2022. From the series New Swiss Views (2021-2022) © Marwan Bassiouni.
Artist Marwan Bassiouni, educator Asmaa Dehbi (INES Institut Neue Schweiz) and curator Maria-Cecilia Quadri (akku) will guide through the exhibition «New Swiss Views» at akku Kunstplattform, running from August 31st to October 6th 2024. The event takes place in English, with translations in German and French available.
The solo exhibition «New Swiss Views» by Marwan Bassouni imagines a post-migrant future for Switzerland.
In the series of the same name, the artist depicts mosques in Switzerland from the inside looking out of the window in an effort to dismantle the alienating gaze migrants in Switzerland are often subjected to. The seemingly “Other” is made visible as an integral part of the country’s landscape.
The exhibition was curated by Maria-Cecilia Quadri.
The guided tour and artist talk are part of the «Swiss Photomonth Extended» programme curated by Rahel Christen.
