As we approach the 200th anniversary of photography in 2027, Patricia von Ah from SEETHINK Lab introduces the Zero Baseline of Photography, a pioneering initiative aimed at redefining our engagement with photography’s transformative journey. The talk will be held in English.
Anchored in the core principles of phenomenology, time, transparency, and transcendence, the project challenges us to perceive the first scientific and artistic photographs not just as historical milestones but as vibrant dialogues between the observer and the visual narrative. Its mission is to not only revisit photography’s key moments but to reimagine them, envisioning a future where photography remains a vital medium of discovery and inspiration, encouraging a deeper connection between the viewer and the essence of seeing.
In her presentation at the Filmpodium Biel/Bienne, SEETHINK Lab founder Patricia von Ah will provide insights into her research work on the Zero Baseline of Photography, followed by an aperitif.
The SEETHINK Lab is an interdisciplinary research initiative founded by Patricia von Ah, dedicated to exploring phenomenological experiences and the influences of optical observation, particularly through the lens of advancements in scientific and artistic photography. Its objectives revolve around the investigation of first photographs, defining moments within the evolution of photography. With the aim to preserve, provide, and distribute curated photographic evidence of the origins and development of photography as a source of information, education, and inspiration for generations of today and tomorrow.
The event is part of the «Swiss Photomonth Extended» programme, curated by Rahel Christen.
